BESPOKE GARAGE DOOR SUPPLIER
Rundum Meir has been helping architects and contractors
design beautiful bespoke garage doors, for over 50 years
A bespoke garage door supplier plays an important role in helping architects achieve a complete and coherent design.
Beyond simply providing a functional door, they collaborate closely with architects to ensure that the garage door contributes to the architectural language of a building. In terms of materiality, proportion, and overall visual balance.
Every project presents its own set of challenges, particularly higher value residential properties and commercial buildings.
Architects often work with unconventional openings, restricted headroom, or façades that demand uninterrupted design continuity. A specialist supplier helps resolve these challenges through bespoke engineering, expert manufacturing, and design-led problem solving.
The right supplier does more than deliver a product, they provide technical guidance, detailed drawings, and on-site support throughout the process. From advising on materials and finishes to integrating automation and sustainability requirements, a bespoke garage door supplier ensures that the design intent is maintained without compromise.
Rundum Meir has been supporting architects in this way for over 50 years. The company works as an extension of the design team, combining precision German engineering with craftsmanship and architectural understanding.
Each garage door is designed to suit the specific context of the project, whether that’s a contemporary residence, a listed building, or a bespoke architectural statement.

Why architects specify bespoke garage doors?
Designing for high value residential properties often presents challenges that standard garage doors cannot meet. Architects regularly face restrictions such as limited headroom, large or unusually shaped openings, or conservation requirements if it is a heritage site.
A bespoke garage door supplier helps resolve these challenges through bespoke design and manufacturing. At Rundum Meir, our garage doors are made to measure, ensuring each element, from the opening mechanism to material finish, supports the project’s aesthetic and technical requirements.
Early engagement with a specialist supplier ensures that the garage door integrates seamlessly with the overall design. This allows for consistency in material choices, detailing, and finishes, helping architects avoid compromises later in the build.
For example, when working on projects within conservation areas, such as listed properties or heritage conversions, Rundum Meir can advise on material authenticity and finish matching to satisfy planning requirements.
Similarly, when smart home integration or enhanced thermal performance is required, the company provides design guidance and engineering solutions to achieve these without disrupting the architectural intent.

Why do architects collaborate with Rundum Meir?
Rundum Meir offers an end-to-end service that goes far beyond manufacturing.
Each project begins with design consultation and technical discussion, followed by CAD and BIM support, and material sampling. Once the design is approved, the door is handcrafted at our manufacturing facilities and then transported to site.
Our range of bespoke garage doors includes Side Sliding Rundum Original, Side Sliding Sectional, Overhead Sectional, and garage doors for specialist projects. All are engineered for long-term performance and smooth operation.
Every system is custom-built, ensuring visual precision and mechanical reliability for your project.
Architects value Rundum Meir’s technical input, particularly during early design stages. The design team assists with feasibility assessments, detailing around reveals and soffits, and guidance on power supply and automation integration. This collaborative process ensures the finished door meets both aesthetic and performance expectations.
Round House, Surrey
We designed and manufactured two curved Rundum Meir Original Side Sliding Timber Garage Doors.
Built as part of a project to renovate and extend a Grade II listed property, the garage design sought to replicate a traditional coach house in order to fit with the Surrey vernacular.
Aesthetics were of paramount importance as the large private family home was originally designed and built by eminent exponent of the vernacular tradition and Arts & Crafts in architecture, Harold Falkner.

Belgravia Mews House, London
A bespoke Up and Over Garage Door was designed and manufactured, bringing 21st century functionality, access and security to a Grade II listed property in London’s exclusive Belgravia.
The garage doors design was sympathetic to local architecture, including the stunning cobblestone street in front of the property.
The client brief was to retain the look of the existing swing opening garage door, but enable up and over automated functionality for improved access and to make best use of the available space.
Downley House, Hampshire
This extraordinary house featured an incredible eight metre concave, curved, automated, slide round the corner bespoke garage door, as part of our Specialist Collection.
The property is an award winning house and was not only featured on the tv show Grand Designs, but was host Kevin McCloud’s House of the Year.

No two projects are the same, and at Rundum Meir, we thrive on the challenge of creating bespoke solutions that perfectly align with the unique specifications of each project.
Our team of skilled designers and engineers work closely with architects from the initial concept to the final installation, ensuring that every detail is tailored to meet the specific requirements of the property.

OVERHEAD
SECTIONAL GARAGE DOORS
Rundum Meir’s Overhead Sectional Garage Doors blend natural timber with sophisticated designs, ideal for high-end residential and commercial properties.
These bespoke doors, available in solid timber or insulated steel, feature panels that slide upwards into ceiling-mounted tracks. The design allows for smooth, quiet operation with torsion springs and provides excellent insulation properties.
Material selection – the value of timber in bespoke garage door design
Timber offers a warmth and natural beauty that is difficult to replicate with other materials. Its rich textures and varying grain patterns provide a unique, organic character to each garage door, ensuring that no two doors are exactly alike.
At Rundum Meir, our garage doors are manufactured from carefully selected species such as Spruce, Sapele, Hemlock, Cedar, Larch, European Oak, Douglas Fir, and Iroko. Each door is crafted from the same piece of timber to ensure consistent grain and colour continuity.
We source a range of hardwoods and softwoods depending on client’s requirements and the architectural vision. Generally, hardwoods have a darker appearance and denser woodgrain pattern as these trees take longer to grow.
As well as its aesthetic appeal, timber also carries durability benefits. The natural strength of timber, combined with advanced treatment processes, ensures that the doors remain robust and functional, providing excellent security and protection for the home.
Contrary to popular belief, when properly treated and maintained, timber garage doors can withstand the test of time, even in the face of harsh weather conditions particularly in the UK.
The final benefit that timber brings to a project is its sustainability credentials. If it is sourced responsibly, it is a renewable resource that aligns perfectly with the principles of sustainable design.
From a sustainability perspective, responsibly sourced timber supports low-carbon building principles and aligns with the UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy. Rundum Meir sources wood only from responsibly managed forests and manufactures with minimal environmental impact.
Automation and smart systems
Modern clients expect technology to enhance comfort and convenience without compromising design. For architects, this means integrating automation early in the specification process.
All Rundum Meir garage door systems can be automated. Motors and control units are concealed within the door’s internal framework, maintaining a clean external façade.
Whether the door follows a straight track or curves around an opening, operation remains quiet, smooth, and reliable.
When planning automation, architects should consider:
- Power supply requirements: A dedicated feed is essential for motorised operation.
- Space allocation: Ensuring sufficient clearance for mechanisms within the garage interior.
- Integration with home systems: Compatibility with major smart home platforms.
By addressing these factors at the design stage, automation becomes a natural part of the building’s function rather than remedial action later down the line.
Integrated garage and front door systems
Architects increasingly seek to unify the appearance of front entrances and garage doors, particularly where both sit on the same façade. A mismatched approach can disrupt the visual flow of a property’s design.
Rundum Meir’s garage doors with integrated front doors provide a refined solution. By using matching materials, finishes, and detailing, the system creates a seamless aesthetic across the property frontage.
